She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Imaging, a BSc Honours in Neuroanatomy, a Master’s in Diagnostic Imaging, and a PhD in Clinical Anatomy, with a subspecialty in mammography. Her academic and clinical expertise has positioned her as a leading voice in the integration of imaging, AI, and health innovation in Africa.
She is the founder and CEO of MedSol AI Solutions, an award-winning healthtech company pioneering AI-enabled diagnostic tools for breast cancer and wound care. Her PhD research led to the development of a patent-pending algorithm, now embedded within Breast AI, a portable ultrasound-based system that provides real-time breast cancer risk predictions at the point of care. The system is designed for both rural and urban settings, offering a 65% cost reduction compared to conventional imaging technologies. Breast AI is currently deployed in over 10 hospitals and clinics across South Africa.
In parallel with her clinical innovation work, Dr. Malherbe is a leading educator in Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS), offering accredited training courses in Basic Ultrasound, Neurology, and Aesthetic Medicine.
Her non-profit organisation, Breast Cancer Support Pretoria, started in 2015 with just 40 women and has grown into a digital community of over 250,000 women across Africa, providing education, screening awareness, and psychosocial support.
